Why doesn't my dad alow me to swim in my briefs?

I went to go swim in my pool really quick because we had to leave for a BBQ soon. So I went inside stripped down to my briefs and grabbed a towel. As I went to go outside my dad stopped me and said " you are NOT going outside like that!" ..... Why not why wouldn't he let me. In my oppinion they are no different than speedos
